Oracle Corp. (ORCL) recently announced that one of the leading retail and commercial banks of Brazil, Banco Santander has chosen Oracle Exadata Database Machine to integrate the operations of Banco Real, which it acquired in August 2009. The Brazilian division of the Spain-based global financial services firm was facing integration problems due to the huge amount of data that it was required to handle after the merger. The challenges faced by the company included growing data volumes, inadequate processing speeds, lengthy batch processes and space limitations in their data center, which were impacting Santander’s regular operations, reputation and revenue growth. Banco Santendar’s migration to Exadata has resulted in the consolidation of servers that led to a significant decline in infrastructure costs. The consolidation has helped in speeding up critical processes

Investors chose to ride on the positives at home yet again and shrugged off the prolonged global worries as indices rose for the third straight day. Technology stocks drove the markets higher as Oracle posted upbeat results and reports of better-than-expected growth of US economy boosted benchmarks. Global concerns over the Japan crisis, unrest in the Middle East and euro-zone debt worries were overshadowed on Friday, but the volumes remained low suggesting investors’ apprehensions against betting big. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) gained 0.4% to close at 12,220.59. The Standard & Poor 500 gathered 0.3% and finished at 1,313.80, while the Nasdaq Composite Index ended at 2,743.06 after posting a gain of 0.2%. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011. Aprimo products will continue to be marketed and sold under its own name once the acquisition closes. The takeover is expected to be slightly accretive to Teradata’s non-GAAP earnings per share in the first year of closing. The acquisition is one of the largest for Teradata. Although the company has made only two acquisitions since 2000, it has continuously added to its growth story and has remained focused on expanding organically.
Oracle Corp. (ORCL) is expected to report its first quarter fiscal 2011 earnings tomorrow on September 16, 2010, after market close. The stock has been trending upward, following the release of the strong quarterly results in June.
Oracle Corp.‘s (ORCL) fourth quarter 2010 earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate on the back of strong new software license sales and growth in hardware sales, boosted by the recent acquisition of Sun Microsystems. We believe Oracle’s better-than-expected results were aided by the improving IT spending environment. Earnings (excluding one-time items but including stock-based compensation expenses) of 58 cents per share were up 31.8% from the year-ago period of 44 cents and 6 cents above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 52 cents. Net income rose 30.6% to $2.93 billion from the year-ago period. The rise in earnings was attributable to higher revenues from new software license sales (sales to new customers), which grew for the third consecutive quarter. This shows that demand for software is picking up. Despite foreign exchange

We expect increased accretive synergies strengthening its competitive position. The acquisition enabled Oracle to take out its number one competitor, Sun and better position it to compete against International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), its biggest database software rival, as well as Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) and Cisco Systems (CSCO). If successful, Oracle’s new strategies would lead to higher top and bottom-line growth, with increased traction from the combined product portfolio. Oracle reported second-quarter 2010 earnings that beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate and provided encouraging guidance demonstrating that enterprise application spending is on the mend.
