Many large and significant companies will be reporting. They include Cisco (CSCO), CVS (CVS), Disney (DIS), Humana (HUM), Coca-Cola (KO), PepsiCo (PEP), Time Warner (TWX) and Yum Brands (YUM). Unlike last week, it will be a relatively quiet week for economic data. We will get the Job Opening and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), which will provide some more detail to the December jobs picture. We will also find out if Consumer Credit (not including mortgages) expanded in December. The only other reports of significance, other

The company has plans to sell $2 billion worth of assets in the GOM with a view to align capital spending with operating cash flow. Plains has a substantial presence in the GOM with a few of its assets performing per expectations. Again, some assets are in a development stage and need capital spending while the company is unsure about the time and capital required for those assets to break-even. Plains’ decision to trim down operations in the GOM area was also perpetuated by the uncertain regulatory environment in that region. Plains intends to invest the proceeds from the GOM asset sale in its onshore operations in

Pioneer Natural Resources Company (PXD) successfully drilled its fourth well in the Eagle Ford Shale play in South Texas. This well is significant for the company as it produces the highest condensate amount as well as the largest combined gas and liquids volume in this play to date. Located in Karnes County, the Handy Gas Unit #1 well initially produces 19.9 MMcfe/d (million cubic feet equivalent per day) of gas Incorporatedluding 2,030 barrels of condensate per day. Another three successful wells in this play are Riedesel #1 well, Sinor #5 well and Crawley #1 well. Drilling in the South Texas area was sharply curtailed last year to support the company’s cost reduction initiatives. However, following this successful drilling result, Pioneer is quite confident with the strength of its holdings in

Pioneer Natural Resources Company (PXD), a Texas-based independent oil and gas exploration and production company, continues its successful Eagle Ford Shale (“EFS”) drilling program. The company yesterday announced its third successful well (the Charles Riedesel GU 1-1 well) in this play. Initial production rate from this well was 15.7 million cubic feet of gas equivalent per day (MMcfe/d). This consists of approximately 11.6 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcf/d) and 680 barrels of condensate per day. The new find is a really giant well and Pioneer’s most liquids-rich EFS well till date. The liquids content may be one of the keys to the competitiveness of the Eagle Ford play, compared to the other shale plays. We favor the stock, given its significant drilling potential at EFS and low-risk
