The sector has made more than $11 billion in deals so far this year. And if Cognis is any indication, that number will continue to climb. Currently, private equity firm Permira and Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) own the German company. But a number of rivals have already expressed interest in changing that. That includes BASF ADR (OTC: BASFY), the world’s largest chemicals company based on revenue. And U.S. specialty chemical company Lubrizol (NYSE: LZ), may have bid as much as €3 billion ($4.1 billion) to get its hands on Cognis.
