by David Fessler, Investment U Senior Analyst Thursday, October 6, 2011 The Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently released its International Energy Outlook 2011. It’s the EIA’s annual 25-year energy forecast, and it contains important information for investors who are considering an investment in the energy sector. Not surprisingly, liquid oil’s share of world energy consumption is predicted to decrease from 34 percent in 2008 to 29 percent in 2035. The decrease is based on dwindling supplies, which are likely to keep prices high. This will prompt users to switch to alternative fuels whenever possible. As expected, two of the main alternatives expected to flourish in production by 2035 will be petroleum from oil sands and natural gas from shale and other unconventional sources. Alternative Petroleum Production According to the EIA,

by Matthew Carr, Investment U Research Analyst Friday, July 15, 2011: Issue #1557 Stand at any metropolitan bus stop. Chances are, a city bus will rumble by advertising, “This Bus Runs on Clean Burning Natural Gas.” Hear that garbage truck squealing and grinding gears through your neighborhood on trash day? Chances are it’s also running on natural gas. Waste Management (NYSE: WM) boasts the largest natural gas fleet in the United States, with 1,000 trucks. In total, there are 112,000 vehicles fueled by natural gas in this country – more than the number of battery-powered electric cars. There are 1,000 natural gas fueling stations. Almost a quarter of all new transit vehicles run on natural gas. With these totals expected to increase, investors are once again betting big on LNG.

Case in point, is the top performing sector — Auto-Truck-Tires. Out of 206 industries tracked, the sector has five of them, and the worst of the bunch, Foreign Autos, ranked tied for 89th with a composite score of 2.88. None of the groups were at the very top, but all were better than average. The original equipment parts makers (although one could argue about the grouping of some of the names) scored best with a rank of 44 and a composite score of 2.62.
