Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) has announced that it intends to present a detailed analysis of safety data on Heplisav, the company’s most advanced pipeline candidate. Dynavax provided encouraging data on Heplisav’s safety profile. The company reported that the candidate’s safety profile was comparable to that of GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Engerix-B. Moreover, no difference was observed in autoimmune adverse events or laboratory markers of autoimmunity in patients receiving Heplisav and Engerix-B. Dynavax will present the data on Heplisav at the Drug Information Association’s (DIA) Third Oligonucleotides-based Therapeutics Conference. The safety data was originally prepared for submission to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as part of extensive documentation that formed the basis upon which Heplisav’s clinical development was allowed to resume in late 2009. Heplisav, an investigational adult hepatitis B vaccine,

Dynavax Technologies Corporation (DVAX) announced recently it has selected the molecule DV1179 for clinical development in its endosomal Toll-like Receptor (TLR) inhibitor collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Currently, IND (Investigational New Drug)-Enabling Studies are underway for DV1179, a bifunctional TLR inhibitor. The selected molecule is expected to be tested in humans later this year. The two companies are collaborating on the development of novel inhibitors of endosomal TLRs for treating patients suffering from multiple autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. TLRs are key receptors of the innate immune system. Under the agreement, Dynavax is conducting research mainly in the area of autoimmune and sterile inflammatory diseases. GlaxoSmithKline possesses the right to exercise its option to license each program on the achievement of proof-of-concept or earlier. After exercising its option, Glaxo will further develop

Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) recently announced the commencement of a large-scale late-stage study of its hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) Heplisav. The trial will enroll 2,000 patients in Canada and the United States. Out of the 2,000 patients, 1,600 will be treated with Heplisav while the remaining patients will receive GlaxoSmithKline plc’s (GSK) HBV vaccine, Engerix-B. The company expects to report data from this study in the first half of 2011. The large-scale study intends to show that Dynavax’s HBV vaccine is just as effective as Engerix-B, eight weeks after the last active dose. The trial is also designed to show lot-to-lot consistency for immune response 28 days after the last dosing among three lots of Heplisav, consecutively manufactured at the company’s facility in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) announced recently that it has received approval from the European Union to make part of its hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) Heplisav at a German factory. The EU approval permits Dynavax to commercially produce hepatitis B surface antigen, a key component of Heplisav at the factory in Düsseldorf, in the west central part of Germany. Rhein Biotech, a German unit of Dynavax, has used this facility to manufacture the hepatitis B surface antigen for Heplisav studies since 2006. The factory has been upgraded since then. The current EU nod comes as a result of the upgrade, thereby expanding production capacity. The new license should enable the facility to meet initial commercial production demands for the anticipated launch of the HBV vaccine. Furthermore, the upgraded facility enhances integrated

Yesterday, Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) announced that it has resumed the late-stage registration trial of its hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine Heplisav in patients with chronic kidney disease. The trial will enroll 600 patients. Heplisav will be tested against GlaxoSmithKline plc’s (GSK) Engerix-B. The company intends to begin another late-stage registration trial in adults over 40 years of age in early 2010. Dynavax expects to complete both trials within the next 2 years. Management expects the vaccine to hit the market by the end of 2012 or early 2013. As a reminder, Heplisav was on clinical hold in the U.S since March 17, 2008 following the occurrence of the severe adverse event (SAE) of Wegener’s granulomatosis.
