While that relationship remains in place, other macroeconomic uncertainties are weighing on the sector’s fortunes. The more notable of such recent headwinds has the Euro-zone debt crisis, which has been a threat to the global economy. The overall fear of contagion emanating from Europe has significantly subsided lately, though the region is expected to undergo an economic downturn as a result of the episode. The outlook for the U.S. economy has meaningfully stabilized, with a host of variables showing distinct improvement over the last few months. The question now is with respect to the impact that the slowdown in China and recession in

The growth outlook of alternative energy companies is directly related to the fortunes of the economy and inversely to the prices of petroleum products. Trends on both fronts appear be favoring the alternative energy industry at present. The U.S. economy has shaken off the negative momentum that appeared to be taking hold in the middle of 2010. The fourth quarter GDP report, despite the subsequent negative revision, is showing the resumption of sustainable economic growth. Importantly, the drivers of economic growth appear to have shifted the more stable consumer spending side. Major economic reports, such as the ISM Indices, leading indicators and consumer confidence are all showing signs of renewed strength. Even the labor market appears to have turned the corner as the weekly jobless claims numbers and the February

OUTLOOK Like everyone else, the Alternative Energy industry was hit hard by the Great Recession and essentially remains in recovery mode. And while the economy is in recovery mode, so is our hope for the industry. The growth outlook of alternative energy companies is closely tied to the fortunes of the economy. Despite some lingering concerns, the global economic expansion remains on track. Per the Energy Information Administration (EIA), in its latest release U.S. electricity consumption is expected to rise year-over-year by 4.7% in 2010. Going forward, in fiscal 2011 we expect the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to grow 3.7% year-over-year. Along with this, a faster decline in the unemployment rate will jack up electricity demand, funneling investor interest in the sector. Also, the outlook for the major emerging

Ameren’s stable and regulated electric power operations in the Midwest generate a relatively stable and growing earnings stream. Future growth will be guided by improved plant operations, a focus on cost management, allowed an ROE of 10% (Missouri and Illinois), a recovering economy boosting industrial sales, and installation of emissions reduction equipment (scrubbers) at its generation plants. In light of the recovering economy, Ameren is focused on developing the electric transmission infrastructure in its service area (Missouri and Illinois) through investments worth $3 billion over the next 10 to 15 years.
OUTLOOK The Alternative Energy industry is going through a recovery after emerging from the global recession and the cascading fall in global crude oil prices. Last year, quite a few alternative energy companies were in the trough. And although these companies have recovered from their lows, their valuations still remain attractive. The growth of alternative energy companies is closely tied to the fortunes of the economy. Despite some lingering concerns, particularly in the wake of the European sovereign debt issue, the global economic expansion remains on track. The outlook for the U.S. and key emerging markets remains positive. In the first quarter of fiscal 2010, the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 3.2%, while sale of electricity to the industrial sector, per the Energy Information Administration (EIA) Incorporatedreased by 2.7%
