California based Broadcom Corporation is a leading chipmaker of products used in wired and wireless communications. California-based Emulex designs, develops, and supplies storage networking infrastructure solutions that connect storage, servers, and networks. Broadcom filed a complaint in a district court alleging that Emulex infringed 10 of the company’s patents. Broadcom stated that it will seek monetary damages and an injunction to stop Emulex from further infringement. These patents are among Broadcom’s portfolio of more than 3,580 U.S. patents, 1,350 foreign patents and 7,350 additional pending patent applications.
Moody’s senior analyst Ken Chan put Chartered Semiconductor’s (CHRT) speculative-grade Ba2 rating under review for a possible downgrade after Abu Dhabi’s nationalized investment firm, ATIC, proposed to buy the Singapore-based company for $1.8 billion. The acquisition would transfer the majority holding from Singapore investment agency, Temasek (Moody’s rating Aaa) to ATIC (Abu Dhabi’s sovereign rating Aa2). Analysts differed on how the acquisition would affect Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which had earlier united with ATIC to form Globalfoundries. Although Chartered and Globalfoundries will continue to operate as separate entities Incorporatedreased scale of operations could result in cost synergies. Since AMD includes Globalfoundries in its consolidated results, the deal could shorten its road to profitability. The deal would also open up Globalfoundries to several big customers, such as Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), Broadcom

by Louis Basenese, Advisory Panelist I don’t care what investing legend you idolize and try to emulate – Buffett, Graham, Rogers, Lynch – they all share a common recommendation. Always buy undervalued stocks and sell them when they’re overvalued. Or more commonly: “Buy low, sell high.” Of course, if you’ve invested for more than a week, you know this is easier said than done. But today, let me show you one amazingly simple way to always buy stocks that are truly cheap… Why America’s Most Successful Investors Buy “Low-Density” Stocks All you have to do in order to invest like Warren Buffett, or

Conexant Systems Inc. (CNXT) recently completed the sale of its Broadband Access product lines to Ikanos Communications Inc. for $54 million. Conexant received about $47 million in cash, while the remaining payment is subject to an escrow to be released in one year. The company expects to record a gain of approximately $35 million in the current quarter from the sale. With the sale of its broadband access business, the company completed a major part of its restructuring and now plans to concentrate solely on providing solutions for imaging, audio, video and various embedded-modem applications. Management said that the company will use all proceeds to strengthen its balance sheet by retiring debt.
