In absolute terms, profit increased 11% to $191.1 million from $172.1 million a year ago. The increase in profit was driven by a 7.4% rise in net sales to $1.92 billion, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.90 billion.
Industry Rank Analysis 11-15-11 Before you know it, Christmas will be here. That is something that tends to bring retail front and center to the minds of investors. Rumors of the death of the U.S. consumer appear to be premature. Despite extremely low levels in the surveys of consumer confidence, people are still going out to shop. Personally I don’t like to rely on those surveys, because what people say to the poll takers is often very different from what they actually do. A wide variety of Retail industries are doing very well based on the Zacks Rank. In light of the second month in a row of surprisingly strong Retail Sales numbers, it looks like the retailers might continue to stay on top for a while. Also in the

The world’s largest mobile phone maker, Nokia Corporation (NOK) recently reduced the price of its three very popular smartphones N8, C7 and E6 by 15%. The recent price cut will enable Nokia to retain its market share as well as to target the middle class segment. Earlier, the company stunned everyone by lowering its second quarter revenue guidance based on lower Average Selling Price (ASP). Presently, Nokia’s most widely used symbian operating system is lagging behind Google Inc’s (GOOG) most popular Android operating system. Currently, Symbian holds 31% market share while Android boasts a 34% market share. Currently, Nokia faces stiff competition from Google’s Android-based smartphones and Apple Inc’s (AAPL) iPhones. Moreover, Nokia’s portfolio lacks a tablet, which will likely hurt profitability in the long run. Nokia desperately needs a

Nokia Corporation(NOK), the world’s largest mobile phone maker, plans to divest its instant messaging service division to British-based firm Synchronica for $25 million. The acquisition will allow Synchronica to enter the U.S. market and gain access to Nokia’s 6 million end users. Furthermore, it will also enable the company to counter the threat from other premium messaging services such as Research In Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry Messenger and the new iMessenger from Apple Inc. (AAPL). Earlier, in 2008, Nokia bought this premium messaging unit from Canadian-based company OZ Communications. The application used by Nokia in their messaging service includes features like MSN Hotmail, Yahoo Mail/Messenger, and Facebook. All these applications are bundled together into their handsets. RadioShack declared mixed financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2011. However, revenues increased 2.1% year over year mainly attributable to growth in mobility (mostly wireless) businesses (up 11%) but fell 22.3% sequentially, mainly due to lower demand for consumer electronic goods and the ongoing tussle with T-Mobile business. The company also reduced its EPS outlook for fiscal 2011. Research In Motion declared mixed financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011. Although EPS beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate, revenues fell below the estimate. The company also provided a weak outlook for the ensuing first quarter of fiscal 2012.
Novatel Wireless Inc. (NVTL) yesterday announced the launch of its compact and light-weight DC-HSPA+ USB modem on Bell Mobility’s Dual-Cell HSPA+ (DC HSPA+) network. The Ovation MC547 USB modem is based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard and will provide the next-generation, high-speed mobile environment. By providing theoretical peak downlink data rates of up to 42 Mbps and 11 Mbps on the uplink, DC-HSPA+ will enable carriers to upgrade their existing infrastructure equipment and achieve significantly higher bandwidths. Despite providing disappointing results, Novatel provided an extremely strong financial outlook for the ensuing fourth quarter. For fourth quarter 2010, management expects revenues to be in the range of $110 million – $115 million. Gross margin will be around 19%-20%. Non-GAAP EPS is expected in the range of 2 cents to 5

The website will allow customers to purchase more than 100,000 parts and accessories. It will also allow free shipping on purchases of $75 or more as well as free in-store pickup.
