The company remains exposed to the highly volatile oil and gas sector fundamentals. We remain concerned about company-specific risks, which include new product growth challenges and potential backlog losses. Additionally, delays in deepwater infrastructure awards may also hinder the growth prospect of Dril-Quip. The company has also exhibited restricted growth in the past few quarters and we remain cautious going forward. However, increased deepwater activity over the near term, recent capacity additions in Brazil and Singapore, as well as ongoing capacity expansions could prove beneficial over time. The second-largest member of the oilfield services contingent behind Schlumberger Ltd. (SLB) has seen its share price climb approximately 25% since the beginning of the year, as investors have been buying the stock for its attractive fundamentals and positive outlook. The recent optimism about economic recovery has added to this bullish sentiment. We like Halliburton’s leading position in the global oilfield services market. We also appreciate its broad and technologically-complex product/service offerings as well as its very strong relationships with both publicly-traded and national oil companies worldwide. The company has been benefiting from increased activity in the unconventional oil and gas shale plays in North America, which have more than made up for the drop

Oilfield services provider Baker Hughes (BHI) has launched a new wellbore clean-up and displacement system. This will be utilized to ensure equipment efficiency as well as minimum hazards while operating in high-cost environments such as deepwater applications; horizontal, extended-reach, and deviated wells; deep wells; and wells with high dogleg severity. The latest generation cyclone-based system –– X-Treme Clean XP –– is expected to clear off dregs and scraps more effectively. The system leverages the most advanced technologies used in the industry. Its application is also much safer and convenient compared to the previous iterations. Management believes that the system will be highly beneficial for customers who operate in difficult yet high-value fields. The technique is planned to provide a high level of performance that will moderate the risks. Houston, Texas-based

(BHI) reported a rise in the U.S. rig count (number of rigs searching for oil and gas in the country). This can be primarily attributed to an increase in the tally of oil rigs, somewhat offset by a fall in the natural gas and miscellaneous rig counts. The Baker Hughes rig count, issued since 1944, acts as an important yardstick for drilling contractors such as Transocean Inc. (RIG), Diamond Offshore (DO), Noble Corp.
It’s easy to think of energy companies in broad strokes. Either there are the big integrated firms, or there are hundreds of independent E&P firms, drillers, and refiners. But, of course, in between are lots of companies that specialize in providing services to all these firms. Names like Halliburton (HAL), Schlumberger (SLB), and Baker-Hughes (BHI) are the big players here. Oilfield services is an industry group with 32 companies in it currently, according to the Zacks Industry Rank which follows about 4,400 equities. And two smaller companies that stand out this week — with a better earnings front than the three giants — are Basic Energy Services (BAS) and Key Energy Services (KEG), both of which are Zacks #1 Rank (strong buy) stocks.
A developer of advanced television services and digital video recorders (DVR) TiVo Inc. (TIVO), unveiled two new products at the 2011 NCTA Cable Show in Chicago. The products “Premiere Q” and “Preview” will join TiVo’s existing advanced television solutions offered to cable operators. TiVo Premiere Q is the company’s first four-tuner gateway set-top box, which serves as an advanced video gateway. TiVo Premiere Q enables four simultaneous recordings and provides access to streamed broadband content, while supporting up to 3 HD streams over a multimedia over coax (MoCA) or Ethernet home network. Premiere Q installation is less costly and simple as it creates a link between the MoCA and Ethernet networks, which allows easy connections to existing home networks. TiVo Preview provides the full TiVo user experience for non-DVR households
