The company’s bottom-line was impacted by 2 cents per share from the loss of pharmacy sales and expenses associated with the dispute. If a contract renewal is not finalized, effective January 1, 2012, Walgreen’s 7,800 pharmacies will not be a part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network. The contract accounted for $5.3 billion of sales in fiscal 2011 as Express Scripts processed 88 million prescriptions filled by Walgreens. In the recently concluded quarter the pharmacy benefit manager processed as much as 26 million prescriptions from Walgreen. The wrangle would undoubtedly have an adverse impact on Walgreen’s sales, earnings and cash flow, going by the company’s recently filed 10Q. However, the

The comprehensive technical and management solutions provider also mentioned that the new offering will be made available virtually through AT&T Inc.’s (T) data centers. AT&T will host the solution leveraging its MIMM cloud service (custom made for imaging services), which was launched last June. The new solution–– Accenture Medical Imaging Solution –– will go a long way in solving the challenges of physically storing medical images such as X-Ray, CT and MRI Scan, faced by hospitals and medical service providers. The solution will enable hospitals and their staff to quick access and share medical images in the cloud, ultimately leading to storage cost reductions. The rating was upgraded as FTI’s corporate finance and restructuring service segment, which has been a significant drag on the company’s results since early 2010, has rebounded to post its first year-over-year increase in six quarters. EBITDA margin was also up 3.2% to 25.7%. The upside in results was driven by growth in the communications, media and entertainment and healthcare practices and higher contributions from Asia and EMEA. Utilization also improved to 75% from 71% in the year-ago quarter for the corporate finance and restructuring segment. FTI Consulting’s recent third quarter 2011 earnings were also solid.
Information Technology (IT) major, International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) recently announced that their scientists have succeeded in developing chips powered by a relatively new memory technology known as phase-change memory (PCM). The new chips can reliably store multiple data bits per cell over extended periods of time. Till date, only single bit-per-cell PCM exhibits the desired reliability in data storage over a period of time, whereas no such results on multi-bit PCM have been reported. IBM said that they have successfully developed the multi-bit chips by doubling the density of a chip and reducing errors when reading data. The chips can store data 100x faster than existing NAND flash technology. They also have high storage capacities and the power to retain data even when the power supply is cut off.

(IT) lowered its worldwide personal computer (PC) growth expectations to 15.3% year over year in the second half of 2010, down 2 percentage points from its previous outlook. Lower consumer demand for PCs in established or mature markets and caution at PC suppliers has led to a dramatic change in the PC supply chain. Gartner cited weak economic conditions in the U.S. and Western Europe as the reason for the softer PC shipment outlook. According to Gartner, mini notebooks constituted less than 18.0% of the total mobile PC market in the second quarter of 2010, down from 20.0% of the total market at 2009-end. Gartner expects mini notebooks market share to drop to approximately 10.0% by 2014. However, worldwide PC shipments are projected to

The revised outlook is due to dramatic deceleration expected in Corporate Finance and Restructuring, less-than expected recovery in Merger and Acquisition activity and the struggling Technology segment. Additionally, progress in its other segments such as Economic Consulting, Strategic Communications and Forensic and Litigation Consulting businesses are slower than expected. Further, the near-term outlook remains cautious as demand environment for practices remains uncertain and seizing up of business in Europe. The economic downturn has adversely impacted technology spending. Global IT spending declined significantly in 2009. The credit crunch greatly impacted IT capital purchases, and most companies have trimmed their IT budgets. This in turn impacted its top line. 2010 will also be a tough year for Unisys as it works through an uncertain spending environment. Management is currently engaged in a multi-step strategy of reducing costs and focusing resources on high growth areas of the IT market. Although management is making progress in expanding margins, we remain cautiously optimistic of the pace of recovery in IT spending and the maturing of higher-margin legacy product sales and services. (CSC) has been awarded two more task orders by the U.S. Navy worth a combined value of $56.0 million. The two task orders, with individual values of $24.0 million and $32.0 million, respectively, were awarded under the SeaPort Enhanced indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (“IDIQ”) contract signed in April 2004. They have fixed tenures of five years each. Both task orders are for support to Navy submarines, surface ships and unmanned vehicles, but while the first one is more focused on development and engineering for model-making (including software simulation, control systems and data analysis), the second covers the actual making of the models and testing them before manufacture.
After entering into a technical collaboration with Korean conglomerate Hanwha S&C, technology and management consulting company Accenture Plc (ACN) recently entered into a global multi-year outsourcing agreement with Electrolux IT Solutions AB. The tech giant will be shouldering the responsibility of developing and managing a designated portion of Electrolux’s enterprise applications, which consist of JD Edwards, Congos and Lotus Notes. The whole service will be delivered through a global delivery model, and the company expects this to catalyze the information technology restructuring process, resulting in a reduction of cost and enhancing efficiency. This is the continuation of a series of contract wins that the company has witnessed in recent times. A few days back, Accenture won a five-year application outsourcing contract from Nordea, a leading banking and financial services group.

Things are going in favor of the information technology (IT) major Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). The company recently announced that it has been chosen by Airbus as a principal consultant for further enhancement of the Value Chain Visibility (VCV) and Auto-ID program of the company. As per this latest agreement, the tech major will be responsible for the implementation of all the Auto-ID and RFID projects. This includes activities like project management, business analysis, change management, operation, monitoring and support. We believe this opens a floodgate of opportunities for CSC in the aviation sector, where some of its competitors like Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ) have a big presence. In addition, CSC recently announced the Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) technology in collaboration, with the networking major Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO).
