(NCR) NCR Corporation Inks Deal With U.S. Airways

NCR Corporation (NCR) signed a deal with US Airways, whereby the later will deploy NCR TouchPort 80, a self-service kiosk that supports passenger check-in at outdoor locations. Around 54 kiosk facilities will be deployed across 15 U.S cities. This will enable passengers to cut the check-in time and, thereby, reduce unnecessary bottlenecks.

The equipment is manufactured in such a way that it can withstand rough weather and sharp temperature fluctuation, and has an inbuilt thermoelectric heating and cooling device to ensure proper functioning of the device.

NCR is rolling out new products at regular intervals and resolving operational issues of its customers around the world. Recently, it launched an advanced point-of-sale solution for its customers. A few weeks back, NCR’s Advanced Store point-of-sale (POS) solution, version 5.4, achieved the “Payment Application Data Security Standard” (PA-DSS), version 1.2., of the “Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council” (PCI SSC). The (PA-DSS) standards have been deployed to protect credit card information of consumers against security threats.

We expect this new TouchPort 80 to successfully address the issue of customer management at US Airways. Also, the new device is expected to create demand among other leading airlines, as every airline is trying to ensure efficient customer management. However, given the state of the industry spending on these devices, it may take some time to see movement.
